An only child, she is a former member of Kansas City’s Coterie Theater Young Playwrights’ Round Table. Janelle Monae Robinson is a Kansas City native who was born December 1, 1985. My work is inspired by the natural world, from wide open spaces of sky and sea, patterns in the sand and distant islands or mountains. She studied drama at Santa Monica High school, participating in many of its theater productions, and was first spotted in Hollywood while walking with her father –who was a member the band Chocolate Genius Inc.
